UPDATE FOR APRIL 27, 2016
A meeting was held with Steamatic managers this morning. Below is the plan for the next several weeks. Adjustments will be made as needed:
- The gym will be finished today but cannot be used for the rest of the week. PE will be outside or in the steel gym. There will be no senior lounge.
- The music room equipment has been cleaned and the work on the walls and ceilings will begin Thursday. Band/choir will be in the steel gym until next week.
- Work on cleaning the elementary science lab, hallway, and technology office will begin later this week or the start of next week. This will take about two weeks.
- Steamatic hopes to have all cleaning completed by May 13.
- The Elementary Music Concert has been rescheduled to Tuesday, May 17, the same evening as the Band/Choir concert, starting at 7:00pm.
- The HS Awards Banquet will be rescheduled to Thursday, May 19.
- Most of the the refuse that was pulled out of the has been hauled away. An outside group will be coming for the sheet metal by the end of the week.
- We are having the shop structure studied so we know how to adequately and safely remove the damaged part of the roof and any loose brickwork. Contractors have been contacted to help us develop a plan and start the work as quickly as possible. This will include gutting, pressure washing and sanitizing the entire area that used to be the industrial arts shop. We hope to have approval from the insurance company to start this next Tuesday.

MESSAGE FROM APRIL 25, 2016
There WILL BE SCHOOL on Tuesday. We had an amazing group of over 75 volunteers who got much more done than was anticipated- it's been a long time since the building has looked and smelled this clean! A huge "Thank You" to the patrons, staff and students who volunteered today. There is still some cleanup to do in the areas that are closed off but all areas are in very good shape.

MESSAGE FROM APRIL 23, 2016
Fire Update: Earlier I sent a message about the fire at Midway. If you checked some media websites, it says it was "a massive fire with extensive water damage". I'm glad they later sent a report so that we could straighten that out.
The true story is that part of the old shop area that is used for storage was heavily damaged. One adjacent area that is used as a multi-purpose room had water damage and there is soot to be cleaned in the adjacent hallway and one other adjacent classroom but, as of now, it appears that the biggest problem throughout the rest of the building is a slight smoky odor in other parts of the building. Steamatic is now at the school to help neutralize that. I'll meet them tomorrow to determine what else needs to be done. At the moment it appears that we could have school on Monday but, just to be safe, we might takeMonday for some final cleanup. I want to stress that, aside from some odor, there was absolutely no damage in any regular classrooms or other areas. I'll put out an announcement by 5:00 on Sunday about Monday. As always, the fire marshal's report will take a while but I have been told that they've ruled out foul play and negligence.
The firefighters from Gilby, Inkster, Larimore and Manvel did a great job by confining it as they did. I'm sending this to you because I know the misinformation that is going around and I thought you might be interested in what the situation really is.
